Fibrous media are present in a variety of systems, many involving an interaction with a liquid, in particular with liquid-air interfaces (e.g. liquid absorption in paper, impact of a drop on a cotton fabric, filtration of droplets from an aerosol with a fibrous filter, extrusion of fibrous gels, papermaking…). I will illustrate some of the mechanisms at play in such fiber-liquid interactions with several model experiments, from the flow of fiber suspensions to the imbibition of model fibrous media.

This talk is part of the Fluid Mechanics (DAMTP) series.
