Flavour deconstruction assumes that the SM is embedded into an extended gauge symmetry that contains a separate gauge factor for each fermion family, with the SM Higgs doublet originating from the third family gauge factor. This framework allows to understand the possible origin of hierarchies in the flavour structure of the SM, and provides a very rich phenomenology if the extended symmetry is broken spontaneously at relatively low energies. I will illustrate flavour deconstruction via simple bottom-up models based on the tri-hypercharge gauge symmetry. Then I will discuss the possible gauge unification of this class of theories.
