Gravitational instantons are solutions to the four-dimensional Einstein equations in Riemannian signature which give complete metrics and asymptotically ‘look-like’ flat space. In late 1970s it was conjectured that the only asymptotically flat gravitational instantons belong to the family of Riemannian Kerr solutions. This conjecture is now known to be wrong, and I shall present a twistor construction of the counterexamples:  a two—parameter family of toric Ricci flat metrics found by Chen and Teo.
