The effects of QCD initial-state radiation on a class of variables designed to probe the scale of new physics at hadron colliders are examined using collinear resummation. The variables in question are ‘global’ and ‘inclusive’ since they involve all transverse and longitudinal information, without making any assumptions on production or decays, and without any exclusive event reconstruction. The effect of invisible particle emission is considered and the method is applied for top and gluino pair production at the LHC .
