Abstract:

Constantly increasing the accuracy of the experimental measurements at the Large Hadron Collider requires unprecedented precision of the theoretical calculations. The missing high-order corrections are becoming the limiting factor for the Standard Model tests. I will show how conspiracy between different partonic channels can lead to underestimating perturbative uncertainties in the traditionally used simple but ad hoc scale variation prescription with no probabilistic interpretation. I will discuss the alternative approach based on Bayesian methods.
