In recent years a lot of states were discovered experimentally in the heavy quark sector that do not fit into the scheme dictated by the quark model, which was believed to work well in this sector. Theoretically the nature of those so called exotic states is not yet fully resolved, but combined analyses of effective field theories and lattice QCD carry the promise to solve the puzzle. In this talk I discuss how this program works on the example of the positive parity singly heavy ground states.

This talk is part of the HEP phenomenology joint Cavendish-DAMTP seminar series.
