Torsion in the homology of arithmetic manifolds has received significant amount of interest recently in the Langlands Programme. In this talk, we will concentrate on the case of arithmetic hyperbolic 3-manifolds. The main result we will discuss, joint work with N.Bergeron and A.Venkatesh, will concentrate on the asymptotic growth of the size of torsion homology and how it relates to arithmetic.

This talk is part of the Number Theory Seminar series.
