If you have a question about this talk, please contact Jack Thorne. This is joint work with Henri Darmon and Victor Rotger. I will discuss some new “canonical points” on elliptic curves defined via weight one modular forms. Our constructions are in part conjectural, supported by theoretical and experimental evidence, and give a unifying perspective on the two known constructions of global points (Heegner points and Stark-Heegner points). I may also briefly discuss an adaptation of these methods, replacing Mordell Weil groups with groups of p-units to recover Gross-Stark p-units, and a recent related theorem which touches on Hilbert’s 12th problem (Kronecker’s dream of youth) for real quadratic fields.
