Many weak factorization systems can be explicitly described using a ‘path object’ construction. These are often the (acyclic cofibration, fibration) half of a Quillen model structure. For example, this half of the Hurewicz model structure on Top can be described using nothing but the classical Moore path space construction and some of the natural structure it carries. Similar weak factorization systems also appear in Cisinski model structures and models of homotopy type theory. I will talk about the theory and practice of such things.
