A well known informal principle says that on a paracompact space, locally finite closed covers are just as good as open covers. In this talk, I will make this principle precise, and provide a systematic comparison of the two sites involved. This comparison will be seen to nicely illustrate various aspects of elementary topos theory (I mean, the elementary part of the theory of Grothendieck toposes).
