Calabi-Yau metrics depend on the choice of the complex structure and the Kahler class, and a central problem is to describe the limiting behaviour of the metric. I will give a survey talk about what can happen in a range of examples, with some emphasis on the ‘large complex structure limit’, which is the context of the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture.
