If you have a question about this talk, please contact Henry Wilton. In this talk I will outline a proof that Khovanov homology detects the figure eight and the cinquefoils. The proof relies on many deep results in gauge theory as well as Khovanov homology and homotopy, but unlike the published proofs of these results, it does not make any use of Heegaard Floer homology.
