In five dimensions there are two classification schemes based on the Weyl tensor-one due to De Smet and the other due to Coley, Milson, Pravda and Pravdova (CMPP). In this talk, we shall review both schemes and demonstrate how they can be used to study GR in higher dimensions. It is already known that CMPP classification reduces to Petrov classification in 4d. The relation of De Smet’s classification to Petrov’s will be presented and finally the relation between the two schemes in 5d will be discussed.
