Qingyuan Zhao will lead a group discussion about competing events which make it impossible for an event of interest to occur. For instance, if we are interested to what extent a new drug reduces the risk of dying from cancer, death by a cardiovascular disease or a car accident would be competing events. These frequently occur in (longitudinal) clinical trials and complicate the definition of a causal effect and its interpretation. If you’d like to prepare for the group discussion, we’d recommend to read Stensrud et al..
