Modified theories of gravity tend to either introduce additional field content or are higher than second-order order. Alternatively, one can work in a more general geometric framework (beyond Riemannian geometry). A more drastic approach is to break fundamental symmetries such as diffeomorphisms or local Lorentz invariance. In this talk I will show the equivalences between these symmetry breaking theories and the non-Riemannian theories known as teleparallel gravity.
