The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is one of the most precisely measured quantities in particle physics and can therefore serve as a high-precision test of the Standard Model of particle physics. The leading-order hadronic contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is given by the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP). A lattice calculation of the HVP aiming at sub-percent level precision requires the inclusion of isospin breaking corrections. I will discuss how these corrections can be included in a lattice calculation and show results for isospin and QED corrections to the HVP from an exploratory study.
