RoCK blocks were an important tool in proving Broue’s abelian defect group
conjecture for symmetric groups that was proved in two papers
(Chuang-Kessar, Chuang- Rouquier). Turner then generalised this to finite
general linear groups. I will talk about my own work on RoCK blocks for
other finite classical groups and the hope that RoCK blocks also exist for
double covers of symmetric groups.
