One can associate to a line bundle a convex body, called the Newton-Okounkov body. This is an asymptotic version of the classical Newton polygon associated to a polyno- mial in two variables, introduced by Newton in 1676. The goal of this talk is to give a short introduction to the theory of these convex bodies and explain how positivity properties of a line bundle can be read from the Newton-Okounkov bodies. As a consequence, I will explain the connection between Seshadri constants and Newon-Okounkov bodies.

This talk is part of the Algebraic Geometry Seminar series.
