We let C be a reduced and irreducible curve with locally planar singularities, and we consider its Hilbert schemes of points C. On the homology groups of these Hilbert schemes we will describe an action of a certain Heisenberg algebra, similar to the action constructed by Grojnowski and Nakajima for Hilbert schemes of smooth surfaces.

As a corollary to the existence of this action we can express the homology groups of C[n] in terms of the homology of the compactified Jacobian of C. This recovers and slightly strenghtens a formula recently obtained in a different way by Maulik and Yun and independently Migliorini and Shende.
