If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Andras Juhasz. We show that in every codimension greater than one there exists a mod 2 homology class in some closed manifold (of sufficiently high dimension) which can not be realized by an immersion of closed manifold. The proof gives explicit obstructions (in term of cohomology operations). We also prove the corresponding result in which the word “immersion” is replaced by ” map with some prescribed finite set of multisingularities”. This talk is part of the Topology Seminar series.
