Canonical dimension is an integral invariant for modules over a ring. Whilst defined cohomologically, it can often be calculated geometrically or asymptotically, meaning it frequently captures information from other well-known dimensions. In this talk, I’ll exploit its properties to describe mod p representations of p-adic groups. The main tool is an analogue of Bernstein’s inequality for Iwasawa algebras.

This talk is part of the Algebra and Representation Theory Seminar series.
