In this survey talk I will discuss well-posedness of hyperbolic Cauchy problems with multiplicities and the role played by the lower order terms (Levi conditions). I will summarise the results obtained in the last ten years in collaboration with Michael Ruzhansky and discuss some open problems for higher order hyperbolic equations.

This talk is part of the Partial Differential Equations seminar series.
