The Bifunctor Theorem appears as the first proposition in Categories for the Working Mathematician and gives conditions for when two families of functors can be combined into a bifunctor. This prompts us to consider an analogous result for pseudofunctors (or lax functors) between 2-categories. We will find that both distributive laws of monads and braidings of monoidal categories appear as special cases. I will also include a brief introduction to string diagrams, distributive laws and lax functors. This is based on joint work with Peter Faul and José Siqueira.
