I will discuss two recent developments at the intersection of holography and quantum information science: Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces as probes of matter fields configurations in emergent holographic geometries (1509.00113, 1606.03307) and an attempt to quantify complexity of free quantum field theory ground states (work in progress with Chapman, Marrochio and Pastawski).

This talk is part of the Theoretical Physics Colloquium series.
