In this talk, I will introduce a metric on the space of groups. This metric, motivated by a generalisation of Benjamini-Schramm graph convergence, turns out to be compact and has nice ties to finitely generated residually finite groups. We explore how the limits interact with other group properties by computing a couple of examples. There are potential applications to a couple of open problems about pseudofinite groups, which time permitting we will look at.

This talk is part of the Junior Algebra and Number Theory seminar series.
