The anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS) may be thought of as the Lorentzian analogue of hyperbolic space. The ‘sphere at infinity’ in this analogy becomes a timelike boundary. To understand AdS as a dynamical solution of Einstein’s equations, one must make a choice of boundary conditions on this boundary. As has been suggested by Friedrich, it is likely that the dynamical stability of AdS depends upon the choice made. In this talk I will discuss recent work with Holzegel, Luk and Smulevici, establishing integrated decay estimates, and understanding the asymptotic behaviour of linear fields in AdS for a large class of boundary conditions.
This talk is part of the Partial Differential Equations seminar series.
