The aim of this talk is to present a well-posedness result for the incompressible Euler equation with free surface. This is a joint work with Jean-Marc Delort. We prove a global existence theorem for the gravity water waves equations with smooth, small, and decaying at infinity Cauchy data. We obtain moreover an asymptotic description of the solution which shows that modified scattering holds.

This talk is part of the Partial Differential Equations seminar series.
