Mathematics and Applications of Branes in String and Mtheory
We discuss the effective theory of Ftheory compactifications by using the Mtheory dual. Two main results are highlighted: (1) the chiral index of a 4D Ftheory compactification can be determined by fourform flux when comparing 3D ChernSimons theories at one loop, (2) the inclusion of warping effects due to fluxes in Mtheory is crucial to determine corrections to the Ftheory effective theory even if in the latter warping effects can be neglected.
