If you have a question about this talk, please contact Jonathan Nelson. In this talk, we give a brief and gentle overview of the theory of injective modules over noetherian rings. After introducing some relevant definitions, we will quickly describe Matlis’s classical results on injectives over commutative rings. We then use these as motivation for studying injective modules over noncommutative noetherian rings, where matters are substantially more difficult. We describe some of the technical hurdles, and mention a bit about what little is known. This talk is part of the Junior Algebra/Logic/Number Theory seminar series.
