Moduli Spaces

The theme of the talk is the construction of virtual fundamental classes for a Quot schemes of curves. First, I will explain the construction for smooth projective curves. Then, letting the curve vary in moduli, we obtain the space of stable quotients. Over nodal curves, a modification of the Quot scheme is necessary: a relative construction is made to keep the torsion of the quotient away from singularities. The resulting space can be used to study the Gromov-Witten theory of Grassmannians.
