The theory of Witt groups can be viewed as a variant
of algebraic K-theory whose relation with KO-theory
is similar to that of algebraic and topological K-theory.
I will discuss examples of smooth complex varieties
for which the Witt groups are completely determined
by the KO-groups and indicate how this leads
to new calculations.
