Special values of L-functions of motives and Euler characteristics

I will explain a conjectured formula for special values of L-functions of motives in terms of Euler characteristics of Weil-etale cohomology.  This cohomology is also mostly conjectural, but a very detailed picture is beginning to emerge.  Concrete examples will be given.
