The talk will be centred around the recent proof of Serre’s conjecture. We will emphasise the open questions this leads to, that one can now think of in good conscience as sequels to a theorem rather than to a conjecture, albeit an important one. This includes higher dimensional analogs of Serre’s conjecture, which are being currently investigated by many mathematicians, and the role that functoriality might play in these.
