If you have a question about this talk, please contact Cong Xue. We will state and sketch the proof of a result about the joint distribution of spins of prime ideals. Roughly speaking, given a number field K, for each prime p of K lying above a rational prime p, we study how p decomposes in a certain quadratic extension K_p of K where p ramifies. Thus our result can be viewed as an analogue of the Chebotarev Density Theorem to a setting where the extension of number fields varies along with the primes. We will then give an application of our result to the problem of existence of governing fields for the 16-rank of class groups. This is joint work with Peter Koymans.
