We will begin with an introduction to the local Langlands correspondence (LLC) , for which the starting point is a non-archimedean local field F. One has arithmetic data (Galois groups) on one side, representation theory on the other. In general, one expects depth to be preserved under the LLC , as indeed it is for GLn. We will discuss the depth-preservation issue for SL2 . We will move on to describe depth-change under Weil restriction E/F of scalars. Joint work with Anne-Marie Aubert (CNRS, France). This will be a non-technical talk.

This talk is part of the Algebra and Representation Theory Seminar series.
