In this lecture we will discuss some technical algebro-geometric questions which arise in connection with the existence problem for Kahler-Einstein metrics. We will begin by recalling the notion of “b-stability”, which involves birational transformations of a degeneration. We will then explain how to adapt an argument of Stoppa to make progress towards proving a Kahler-Einstein manifold is b-stable.
