It is impossible for us to develop the skill of using a new language without first acquiring a significant amount of new knowledge. This new knowledge is high in both volume and complexity, making learning languages particularly challenging for adults. By tapping into our innate spatial capacity, however, we can master this knowledge requirement quickly and effectively using memory palaces – a process common in the Middle Ages and now facilitated by virtual reality.
