Stochastic Processes in Communication Sciences

In multipath packet data networks, packets may be received by a receiver in an order different from the sequence of their arriving at a transmitter, but are often required by an application at the receiver to be delivered in the arriving order. This in-sequence packet delivery is implemented through packet resequencing. In this talk, we present a mathematical modeling method for the analysis of resequncing buffer content, which is valid for the three commonly used ARQ protocols. Large deviation results and exact tail asymptotics for the resequencing delay distribution will also be discussed.
