Coupling Geometric PDEs with Physics for Cell Morphology, Motility and Pattern Formation Thin elastic bilayer structures arise in various modern applications, e.g., in the fabrication of nanotubes or microgrippers. The mathematical modeling leads to a nonlinear fourth order problem with nonlinear pointwise constraint. We prove the convergence of a finite element discretization within the framework of $Gamma$-convergence and discuss the convergence of an iterative solution method.
