Mathematics and Applications of Branes in String and M-theory
Compactification of six-dimensional (2,0) superconformal theory on a circle has five-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory as its low-energy effective theory. We describe the generalization to six-manifolds that are circle fibrations.
A further generalization is to allow certain kinds of singularities where the fibre radius shrinks to zero.
