There are many different characterisations of Chebyshev polynomials (with special weight) on several intervals with maximal number of deviation points. Some of them (conformal mappings on the comb domains, Schottky-Burnside functions, harmonic measures) will be discussed. The role of harmonic measures will be illustrated by a short proof of the classical Bernstein inequality.

This talk is part of the Numerical Analysis series.
