In this talk, we will have a look at the world’s largest video site – Youtube. There are over 24h of video material being uploaded to Youtube every single minute. In this talk, we will have a look behind to curtain and see how Youtube has managed to scale the site to these numbers. We will also have a look at the system Youtube is using to deal with copyright infringement.
Oliver Heckmann is working for Google Zürich and leading a 50 person Youtube developer team, the largest team outside the US headquarter. He is leading projects like Youtube Content ID, the Youtube GData APIs, Youtube Insight and a number of Youtube monetization projects.
Before working for Youtube, he was a manager on the Gmail team. Oliver did his PhD at the Multimedia Communication Lab Darmstadt in 2004 and won the best computer science dissertation award of the German ACM .
He did research on Internet service providers, quality
of service and peer-to-peer, before joining Google 3 years ago.
