The Cosmic Infrared Background: a tool and a nuisance for cosmology & galaxy evolution

The Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB) spans a wide range of redshifts. Its measurements are thus a powerful tool to map the star formation at high redshifts and connect the host dark matter halos with the galaxies residing in them. Also, in cross-correlation with the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and galaxies, CIB acts as a cosmological observable. Despite being an excellent astrophysical and cosmological probe, CIB acts as a foreground for the CMB and line intensity mapping studies. In this talk, I will explore both these sides and present a couple of novel ways the CIB can act as a cosmological tool and a foreground. Finally, I will also present a new estimator for detecting the screening of the CMB by the large-scale structure which might provide us with a first-ever detection of this effect.
