A longstanding problem in holography is the reconstruction of the entropy of black holes via a field theory calculation. Recently, much progress has been made in the context of supersymmetric black holes in AdS_5 and the superconformal index of N=4 SU(N) Super Yang-Mills.

In a soon to be published work with Ofer Aharony, Francesco Benini, and Paolo Milan we analyze the index in the Bethe Ansatz approach, expressing it as a sum. We then find that in the large N limit each term in the sum can be identified with the contribution of a different (complex) supersymmetric black hole solution, and reproduce some of its perturbative and non-perturbative contribution. The non-perturbative terms introduce a stability condition that explains why certain bulk solutions satisfy the same boundary conditions, but do not appear in the index. Finally, we argue for an exact match between the sets of solutions on both sides.
