If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Maria Marques de Carvalho. The talk will cover some of the projects in which Fernando has worked in the last three years and half in COWI . From the assessment and strengthening of the West Gate Bridge and the extension of EJ Whitten Bridge, to a design competition of a footbridge in Zurich, the presentation will focus on the challenges encountered in each project. A special attention will be paid to the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, currently under construction, which will set a new record for the longest span with 2023 m. This suspension bridge spans the Dardanelles in Turkey and is planned to be completed in 2023. The talk will finish with an overview of some of the skills that engineers from an academic background can bring to these challenging projects.
