Data driven computation ideas have been around for a long time. Data-flow is currently used in the small to control instruction level parallelism, but has otherwise been commercially unsuccessful (so far) at other levels of abstraction.

Data-flow computer architectures which support instruction-level data driven computation will be reviewed. Then more recent ideas on coarse grained data-flow for multithreading will be presented.
