We will discuss how to find closed geodesic networks in the sphere that are critical points (of a mass functional) with higher index. We explain what is the width of a manifold and try to compute it for the round sphere. Furthermore, we give a counterexample to a conjecture regarding the index and nullity of closed geodesic networks in ellipsoids.
