Abstract: Development and deployment of large language models (LLMs) is progressing at breakneck pace. This reading group session will involve two components. First, I’ll give a whirlwind tour of several recent advances around LLMs (e.g., prompting; various model fine-tuning methods; model editing) and continued challenges (e.g., adequate evaluation; uncertainty communication). However, this will cover only a comparatively small handful of recent developments and questions! The breadth, fervor, and (arguably) chaos surrounding LLM developments motivates the second component: an open conversation on what to make of the pace in the space, as ML researchers and community members. Hopefully we can have a lively conversation!
