When it comes to employing creativity, humans have a massive advantage over machines. They are able to relate their art to personal experience; they have a wide range of things to inspire them, and they experience joy and heartbreak. Although we cannot bestow emotion on machines, advances in computer science are eroding the lead humans enjoy when creating art. In this talk we will discuss the recent progress in computational creativity, with a focus on poetry, and give an overview of the current state of the art.
