Computer scientists study many abstract concepts such as data structures, algorithms, state machines, race conditions, and complexity.Individually or in limited combination, these are ample fodder for academic analysis. In large-scale commercial systems such as those at Booking.com, many of these concepts are relevant simultaneously in unanticipated, challenging, and occasionally catastrophic ways. We will ramble interminably about this until the gong is struck.
